في مثال على الخسائر غير المرئية للحرب الإسرائيلية المتواصلة منذ أكثر من 6 أشهر على قطاع غزة قتلت قذيفة إسرائيلية واحدة آلاف الأجنّة في مركز لأطفال الأنابيب، كانت بمثابة الأمل الأخير لمئات الأزواج من أهالي القطاع، ممن يواجهون مشكلات في الخصوبة.
وحدث ذلك عندمت أصابت القذيفة أكبر مركز للخصوبة في قطاع غزة في كانون الأول، أدى الانفجار إلى نزع الأغطية عن 5 خزانات تحتوي على النيتروجين السائل كانت في زاوية من وحدة الأجنة.
وعندما تبخر السائل بالغ البرودة ارتفعت درجة الحرارة داخل الخزانات وقُضي بذلك على أكثر من أربعة آلاف من أجنة أطفال الأنابيب إضافة إلى ألف عينة أخرى لحيوانات منوية وبويضات غير مخصبة كانت هي الأخرى مخزنة في مركز البسمة للإخصاب وأطفال الأنابيب.

“In a stark example of the unseen toll of the continuous Israeli war on Gaza for over six months, a single Israeli shell killed thousands of embryos at an IVF center, which represented the last hope for hundreds of couples facing fertility issues in the enclave.
The incident occurred when the shell struck the largest fertility center in Gaza in December, causing the covers of five tanks containing liquid nitrogen, located in a corner of the embryo unit, to be blown off.
As the extremely cold liquid evaporated, the temperature inside the tanks rose, resulting in the loss of over four thousand embryos of in vitro fertilization (IVF) along with a thousand other samples of unfertilized sperm and eggs that were also stored at the Smile IVF and IVF Center.”
